Lot 135 Colt Single Action Army 'Cavalry' .45 LC #49943
Colt S.A. Army U. S. Martially, marked Cavalry Revolver #49943. Henry Nettleton inspected, with Colt factory letter verifying shipment to Colt government at Colt plant Aug. 23, 1878 in a 200 gun shipment. Standard .45 L.C. calibre, 7 1/2" bbl, wood grips, lightly cleaned to gray metal, surfaces that are still fairly crisp with good markings. Grips also cleaned but fit well and only very slightly undersized. H. N. Inspections visible on bottom of frame over the number, beneath T. C. number, on backstrap behind hammer well. HN plus "P" inspection on matching cyl. The bbl shows H.N. and P also on bottom in front of pin where there is bright blue where protected from cleaning with sand or crocus cloth. Correct ejector rod head and cyl pin with hole and early hammer (no inspection). Good action and good bore, 9943 on bottom of bbl with correct ejector rod housing. A very acceptable H. N. inspected U. S. with no fakery whatsoever, and I would rate this cavalry at a 7.5 on 1-10 condition scale, noting the brilliant blue beneath the ejector rod housing and on housing itself. Description by John R. Gangel aka "Little John".
